One of my favorite discoveries has been working with black slate—the results are stunning and open up a world of creative options, especially for coasters. It also performs beautifully on darker materials like keyrings. Lighter woods can be trickier, as each type reacts differently, so expect some trial and error there. And with acrylic, it’s essential to test carefully—it can melt or burn easily, but with patience, you’ll find the sweet spot.

I’m still exploring everything this compact powerhouse can do, and I’m genuinely impressed. For the price, it’s an outstanding investment for any beginner. I’ll admit, I wish I’d waited just a bit longer—two weeks after I got mine, the 20W Pro version was released, which I would’ve jumped on! So easy to setup and use, already making lots of things.

Although the free S/W is limited it is still very capable of producing some excellent projects. The SW is the only thing I'd want to see improved but then again I'm used to designing things in AutoCad so I am looking for tools that don't exist in the Falcon S/W; it's still good though.

On Today's episode of laser etched canvas frustrations! Haha
I prepped a few canvases with 3 colors - white, grey, and black. These canvases were painted using rustoleum 2x paint and primer. My other canvases were done with glidden spray paint ( which is much thinner per sprayed coat ). I did 3 coats of white, 2 coats of grey and 1 heavy coat of black.
Being the rustoleum 2x paint is much thicker per sprayed coat I accumulated alot more paint on the canvas than I was used to and guess what, none of my canvas settings worked 😢.
What I learned is not every photo will look good processed as a greyscale and vice versa. These AI eyeballs were too detailed and the paint to thick to work as a greyscale with much detail. I found that using a dithered method works better and allows more detail with these images.
These are 3 images done different ways, 3 are greyscale and 3 are dithered. 2 dithered in imagr and 1 dithered in lightburn. 3"x3" canvas panels.

Well this machine has kept me occupied on all my days off work. It is amazing the things you can do with it from engraving to cutting most types of materials. There are plenty of crealty videos on line on how to use it and set it up. It's turned into a great hobbie.

Finally got to do something with my new Creality falcon 2 pro 22w. Some slate coasters for a BBQ today at a friend's house. Huge difference from the 5w I was using 😆. Did all 6 at the same time and took just about 90 minutes.
